Load balancing without an extra meter in the fuse board

The partnership brings meter-based load balancing to amina C and amina M chargers, available now. The Saveeye+ device reads real-time data from the household electricity meter and passes it to the charging management system (CSMS) that runs the charger. Monta is the first CSMS to support it, and more platforms will follow. If the oven is turned on while the heat pump is working hard, the car can temporarily charge more slowly. Once electricity demand elsewhere in the home decreases, the charging rate can increase again.

 

Until now, load balancing in a home has usually meant fitting an extra meter in the fuse board, which means an electrician and a bill (our guide to dynamic load balancing explains that route). Without load balancing, some households may choose to limit the charger’s maximum power instead, which can mean the car charges more slowly even when electricity demand elsewhere in the home is low. The Saveeye+ device connects to the household electricity meter already installed by the grid company and reads real-time consumption and production data directly from the meter.

Most people skip load balancing because it means another visit from the electrician. Saveeye uses the meter that’s already there.

What you need to get started

You need an amina C or amina M connected to Monta, plus a Saveeye+ reader that you can buy from Saveeye’s webshop. The Saveeye+ device needs to be compatible with your electricity meter. Saveeye’s compatibility guide shows which device is suitable. A Wi-Fi connection is also required at the meter location.
